Robert S. McNamara, Vietnam-Era Defense Secretary, Dies at 93

Former Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara died on Monday, July 6. He was 93 years old.

McNamara served under both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations and was often credited with being the architect of the Vietnam War. Over time, McNamara came to regret many of the decisions that he and other government officials made that led to the escalation of conflict in Vietnam. He wrote candidly about his regrets in the national bestseller In Retrospect.
