Samantha Harvey’s debut novel The Wilderness continues to rack up nominations! In addition to being awarded the 2009 Betty Trask Prize and being longlisted for the 2009 Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction 2009, Harvey’s moving portrayal of an Alzheimer’s patient is now in competition for the Guardian first book award.
The contenders span poetry, history and fiction. Judges for the award are BBC presenter Martha Kearney, poet and novelist Tobias Hill, writer Nadeem Aslam, political philosopher John Gray, and the Guardian’s deputy editor, Katharine Viner. The £10,000 winner will be decided in December.
