This year’s event at MoCCA was a huge success! The place was packed from beginning to end, and the energy at the 69th Regiment Armory in NYC was exhilarating and contagious to say the least. We absolutely loved seeing and talking to every single one of our fans, answering questions, and sharing our enthusiasm for Pantheon’s upcoming graphic novels. Our authors did, too!
Ben Katchor, author of The Cardboard Valise, was present to demonstrate how to Build a Book from Start to Finish, and attracted a steady traffic of highly enthusiastic fans! He also signed books, and made sure to chat with every single one of his gracious fans. Read an excerpt from The Cardboard Valise on Scribd!
Not to be outdone was Daniel Clowes, the man many of you have already come to know and love through his New York Times Magazine weekly serial, Mr. Wonderful. For those of you who may not be familiar with the series, picture a love story cross between Woody Allen’s Manhattan and Joseph Minion’s After Hours. However, Clowes deviates from the dark comedy style by giving his pitiful protagonists a chance to come out triumphant, making for some very smitten fans! One can’t help but fall in love with Mr. Wonderful, and it showed at MoCCA—we completely sold out of early copies on the first day!
Asterious Polyp’s author David Mazzucchelli made the rounds all over the festival, but he also made sure to stop by the Pantheon booth, shared a couple of laughs with us, signed some books, and he even gave us a hand—such a gentleman! Additionally, Josh Neufeld (A.D.) was present, Kim Deitch (Alias the Cat) had a signing and sketch table, Jessica Abel (La Perdida) was Teaching Comics, Dash Shaw (Bodyworld) had a panel conversation with Brecht Evens, and of course the ever popular and multi-talented Chip Kidd (Bat-Manga!) was there to showcase Reciprocal Influence: Comics and Graphic Design.
And last, but most certainly not least, next spring’s amazing new graphic novel author for Pantheon/Schocken Leela Corman (Unterzakhn), came by to talk books, illustration–and bellydancing!
Stayed tuned to hear more from her, see all our Flickr photos, and expect to hear more on upcoming Pantheon Graphic Novels!
