White is for Witching in Barnes & Noble's Top Ten

December 10th, 2009

Helen Oyeyemi’s extraordinarily original White is for Witching was among the ten novels named to Barnes & Noble’s Best Books of 2009 list. Their reviewer wrote, “Oyeyemi writes with a lyricism that begs to be noticed… Her language lends the novel an uncanny grace… Oyeyemi has written a work of undoubtable beauty… The hazy interplay between the real and the non-real gives the novel a perfect creepiness… The novel is, in the end, as haunting as its many ghosts.”

Oyeyemi was born in Nigeria in 1984 and raised in London. She wrote her widely acclaimed first novel, The Icarus Girl, before her nineteenth birthday; she graduated from Cambridge University in 2006. Her second novel, The Opposite House, was a nominee for the 2008 Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. White is for Witching is her third novel.
