Sony has closed a deal with Daniel Craig to be in the lead role of the US adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. He will also be the lead for the two potential movies to complete Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy.
Directing this adaptation will be David Fincher with writing done by Steve Zaillian and produced by Scott Rudin.
Already in theaters, Music Box Films’ original Swedish trilogy of the series has grossed millions already. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has grossed $9.6 million in the U.S. and $92 million internationally with The Girl Who Played With Fire, at $2.9 million in the U.S. and $51 million internationally. The third movie in the trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest, will be released later this year.
Another book adaptation soon to come to theaters as a major motion picture is One Day starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess created by Focus Features and Random House Films.
