Golden Globe Nominees With a Literary Pedigree

December 14th, 2010

Nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globes were announced today, and among the honorees are several great book-to-screen adaptations. Topping the literary list with six nominations — including Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director — is The Social Network, based on The Accidental Billionaires, by Ben Mezrich.

Showtime’s Dexter, based on the books by Jeff Lindsay, was nominated for Best Drama, while Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles both received nods for their work on the hit show. HBO’s Temple Grandin, a biopic based on the author’s own Thinking in Pictures, received a Best Miniseries nomination as well as nominations for actors Claire Danes and David Strathairn. Plus, Paul Giamatti was nominated for his performance in Barney’s Version, based on the novel by Mordecai Richler.

The Golden Globes will be awarded in a ceremony on January 16, 2011. What do you think of the nominee pool? Anyone missing? Any dark horse candidates? Our friends at World & Film break down some of the nominees here.
