The New Yorker Recognizes Young Writers

June 3rd, 2010

10 men and 10 women under 40 years old have been chosen by The New Yorker in it’s “20 Under 40” list of exceptional fiction writers. Three of these young writers selected are published by Vintage Anchor Books. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie author of The Thing Around Your Neck, Karen Russell author of St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves and Nicole Krauss author of Man Walks Into a Room.

A list such as this has not been created by The New Yorker in over a decade. Some of the writers chosen in the past have become very successful such as Jhumpa Lahiri, author of Unaccustomed Earth and Nathan Englander, author of The Ministry of Special Cases.

These twenty diverse young writers hail from all across the globe. The New Yorker editor, David Remnick stated in an interview, “This is not an aesthetic grouping. The group is a group of promise, enormous promise. There are people in there that are very conventional in their narrative approach, and there are people who have a big emphasis on voice. There are people who are in some way bringing you the news from another culture.”
