danielewski-lo-res2Yes, it’s true. Who better to interview the best-selling author of The House of Leaves and Only Revolutions about his forthcoming novel, The Fifty Year Sword than a beloved reader? In celebration of the release of The Fifty Year Sword on October 16, 2012, we’re hosting a contest in which one lucky winner will have the opportunity to interview Mark Z. Danielewski via Spreecast, a live social video platform. The winner will also receive a finished copy of The Fifty Year Sword.

Submit your contact information and fill out our brief questionnaire below to enter for a chance to win. Selection of the winner will be based on originality and creativity. The winner will be chosen by Mark and the Pantheon marketing team.

Please note:
– Must be at least 18 years of age.
– This is not an in-person interview but rather a video (split screen) interview that will be broadcast live online via Pantheon’s social portals.
– The winner’s questions will be vetted prior to the event to ensure the quality of the interview.

I. HOW TO ENTER
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Enter by submitting original comments (no more than 500 words) on the pantheon.knopfdoubleday.com Danielewski Contest page. Entries must be posted between September 17, 2012 at 12:01 am (Eastern Daylight Time) and 11:59 pm (Eastern Daylight Time) on October 15, 2012. One (1) winner will be selected on or about October 15, 2012. The winner will be invited to interview Mark Z. Danielewski via Spreecast live video platform on or around October 22, 2012 and will receive one (1) finished copy of THE FIFTY YEAR SWORD. There will be one (1) winner total.

II. ELIGIBILITY
Contest is open to legal residents of the United States who are at least 18 years of age on September 17, 2012. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law. Employees of Random House Inc., and its parent companies, subsidiaries or affiliates, and their immediate families and persons living in their household are not eligible to win this contest.

III. PRIZES
One (1) winner will receive the opportunity to video interview author Mark Z. Danielewski for a maximum of one hour. The video interview will be broadcasted on Facebook and / or Pantheon’s website. Prize value is $26.00. Random House Inc. does not assume any liability. If for any reason prize is not available or cannot be fulfilled, Random House Inc. reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value, including, but not limited to, cash equivalent. All federal, state, and local taxes, if any, are the Winner’s full and sole responsibility. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be assigned. No prize or cash substitutes allowed, except at the discretion of the sponsor as set forth above.

IV. WINNER
The winner will be chosen on or around October 15, 2012. Entries will be judged by the Pantheon Marketing Department staff as well as Mark Z. Danielewski, whose decisions are final, and the prize will be awarded on the basis of originality, style, and creativity of the questions and comments he/she submits. The winner will be notified before October 22, 2012 by email and may be required to sign and return affidavit(s) of eligibility and release of liability within 10 days of notification. A noncompliance within that time period or the return of any notification as undeliverable will result in disqualification and the selection of an alternate winner. In the event of any other noncompliance with rules and conditions, prizes may be awarded to an alternate winner. Taxes, if any, are the winner’s sole responsibility. RANDOM HOUSE RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SUBSTITUTE PRIZES OF EQUAL OR GREATER VALUE IF PRIZES, AS STATED ABOVE, BECOME UNAVAILABLE.

V. ADDITIONAL PROVISIONS
By participating, Winner agrees that Random House, Inc. and its parent company, assigns, subsidiaries or affiliates will have no liability whatsoever, and will be held harmless by Winner for any liability for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to person, including death, and property resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the acceptance, possession, misuse, or use of the prize, or participation in this contest. Random House assumes no responsibility for any error; omission; interruption; deletion; defect; delay in operation or transmission; communications-line failure; or the theft destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entries. Random House is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines; computer online systems, servers, or providers; computer equipment or software; or failure of e-mail or entry on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or combination thereof, including injury or damage to the participant’s or to any person’s computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials from this Web site or contest. By entering the contest, participants are consenting to the use of their name and submissions for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf of Random House with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law).

VII. GOVERNING LAW
All disputes and questions regarding the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of any participant or the Sponsor, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than New York. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. If any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these Official Rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
