Edith Piaf's Essential Songs, Now on Spotify

November 9th, 2011

It can be daunting to dive into the musical backlist of an artist as prolific and accomplished as Edith Piaf, so we got Carolyn Burke, author of No Regrets: The Life of Edith Piaf, to put together a list of essential Edith songs.

Carolyn writes, “I’ve chosen songs from three periods of Piaf’s life: two from 1936, when she was plucked off the Paris streets to perform in an elegant cabaret; six from the war years (when she began writing her own tunes, often with the composer Marguerite Monnot), and seven from the late ‘40s and ‘50s, at the height of her fame—including little-known numbers (like the rocking “L’Homme à la moto”) that continue to inspire the contemporary singers around the world who keep returning to her repertoire.”
